overdose OVERDOSE!

Unlike some of Turkey’s major tourist destinations, the Rainbow Mountains are less famous, let's say not famous at all. Even many locals didn't even know about this place. Good for us! Once more an ideal location for finding some solitude and an off-the-beaten-path adventure.
We spent 5 days in this area ...

Located in Nallıhan, quite remote in the district of Ankara. But not much other to see but a (famous) bird sanctuary.

40° 11′ N , 31° 21′ O

The rainbow mountains are home to a variety of bird species – small, big, song birds. We saw many of them: Storks, Cranes, Eagles, Hawks, too many. Made this place even more special.

The vivid colors of the Rainbow Hills result from the erosion of sedimentary rock layers over millions of years. The hills' layers contain different minerals, such as iron oxide and copper, which have oxidized over time and created distinct red, orange, yellow, green, and white bands, which create this visual effect reminiscent of a RAINBOW. Depending on the light, the colors even change.

FLY ATTACK

We didn't know that there are flies that actually are blood-sucking beasts that bite you until we got bitten. Stable flies. F$%&ers! They look similar to houseflies but are blood-feeding insects. And they got us, a lot! Those bites, itchy as hell, stayed for days, if not weeks!
