Drifting Through Khao Sok

Somewhere in the south of Thailand, just like that, we were two Landy's again. We met Eva and Matthias @audetourunsourir. And again we met travelers with the same plan: this time exploring the Khao Sok National Park in the Surat Thani province. This place has been on our list for a while. We teamed up, set up our camp directly at the Cheow Lan Lake inside the park. The next morning we took a very early boat ride across the Cheow Lan Lake to explore the area.

What makes this place even wilder: the rainforest here is estimated to be around 160 million years old, older than the Amazon. Yet the lake itself is man-made, created in 1987 when the dam flooded the valley. Nature and human impact, somehow blending into something that feels untouched.

A thick layer of fog still hung over the water, we couldn't see nothing. After some minutes the sky cleared and revealed the limestone karsts around us, Jungle and rocks. And somewhere deep in the jungle, we could hear gibbons calling into the morning. One of those moments you don’t forget.

It’s hard to explain how impressive this place really is. You don’t just see it, you feel it.
