Meanwhile in Switzerland
While we are back at work in Switzerland and waiting for our car to finally depart from Singapore, we still have plenty to do. We never really get bored. And yes, Switzerland has a lot to offer too, especially during summer.
Whenever we can, we hike up a mountain and explore corners of Switzerland we have not been to before. Last weekend, we hiked up to Rophaien, a 2077 m mountain in the canton of Uri, sitting high above the southern arm of the Vierwaldstättersee.
Rophaien belongs to the Schwyzer Alps and stands in a very exposed position, which is exactly why the view feels so dramatic: the lake far below, steep green slopes, high cliffs, and the big Uri mountains all around. The whole vibe is pure central Switzerland: forest at the bottom, open meadows higher up, rocky ridges near the top, and a huge summit cross above the deep blue lake.
We started the hike in Flüelen, right by the water, and took the small cable car up to Oberaxen to gain some altitude quickly. From there, the real climb began, quite steep, but with amazing views all the way up and even better ones from the summit.
It took us around two hours to reach the top and about one and a half hours to hike back down, including a few photo stops along the way. We absolutely loved this one. Definitely one of our favourites so far.
