Arrived in Salalah, the southern part of Oman. Destination to set up camp: Coconut Beach. By the time we reached Coconut Beach, we’ve been on the road for almost 9 months. Not gonna say how crazy it is how fast time passes – but yes, f*#kin crazy. Time to get some fresh coconuts, picking bananas (that were not imported from Africa) off the trees and eat some fresh papayas and mangos – what a treat!
Ahh, Salalah — now that’s a whole different vibe! It’s like someone carved a piece of tropical paradise out of the Caribbean and dropped it in southern Oman. Salalah is lush — and we're not exaggerating. If you drive through the town you'll find banana, coconut or papaya plantations on both sides of the road, flowers and trees are decorating the whole city.
Water in the country of deserts
Everything is so green, we kept asking ourselves where do they get the water from to keep all the plants from dying at this crazy heat. How?
So every year from June to September, Salalah is hit by the Khareef, a monsoon that rolls in from the Indian Ocean. It brings steady drizzle, fog, and cooler temps, especially in the Dhofar mountains.
How do you define paradise?
Unfortunately we don’t have a sky window in our car. But sitting outside looking up is good enough to enjoy this view.
Who thought you could find such a tropical environment on the Arabic peninsula? We definitely not.
Ever seen BABY CAMELS enjoying the beach? Yeah really.
