WHERE DESERT SANDS MEETS CRYSTAL-CLEAR WATERS
We’ve been driving quite a while until we finally reached the coast line of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, which stretches over approximately 2640km. We missed the sea AND the warmer temperatures A LOT. After some colder weeks in the northern part of Saudi we really needed some vitamin SEA ッ
Ok, someone got little over excited when we reached the coast at sunset.
Our excitement was big when we arrived at the coast just before the sun went down. We camped for a few nights, went snorkeling and explored the area driving along the coast trying to find secluded beaches. We found many small sandy beaches with crystal clear waters and very long stretches of coral reefs. So beautiful!
But also we could rest – how calming the sea can be.
Seashells. So many, so beautiful.
1760 km of coast line
The Red Sea coastline of Saudi Arabia stretches for approximately 1,760 kilometers (, running from the Jordanian border in the north to Yemen in the south. We got to the coast a little north of the city Jeddah – we heard many stories from other travelers that they were sent away by the coast guard, when they wanted to camp or even swim in the sea. Why? Because of the mega project NEOM – A futuristic mega-city project in the northwestern part of the coast, focusing on sustainability, tourism, and innovation. Crazy.
Couldn’t decide which side had the better views.
We drove all the way until we got to the end of the path.
End of the path.
Great sea views.
AND finally we got to explore the underwater world of Saudi.
Happy to see some fish. But as probably almost everywhere on this planet, coral reefs are dying and with them all the marine life. It was of course not like the memories we had in our mind from last time, when we were still kids, we were snorkeling in the Red Sea. It was really hard to find any coral alive.
Beachfront camps are THE BEST, agree?
The sky turns into a masterpiece at sunset.
Watching the sun melting into the horizon, painting the sky in oranges, pinks, and purples – purifying.
The darkside: SO MUCH trash, everywhere. It’s just so sad to see, what you’ll find at the beach. We did a little beach clean up. Yeah, probably it was for nothing since it will be the same the next day and the day after.
We met a group of expats, camping not far from us. They invited us for dinner and we had a real good time with them. Thanks again!
