Drifting Through Khao Sok
Somewhere in the south of Thailand, just like that, we were two Landy's again. We met Eva and Matthias @audetourunsourir. And again we met travelers with the same plan: this time exploring the Khao Sok National Park in the Surat Thani province. This place has been on our list for a while. We teamed up, set up our camp directly at the Cheow Lan Lake inside the park. The next morning we took a very early boat ride across the Cheow Lan Lake to explore the area.
Very close to the pier where were going to take the boat ride, we set up our camp.
It was actually a parking lot, good enough for us.
What makes this place even wilder: the rainforest here is estimated to be around 160 million years old, older than the Amazon. Yet the lake itself is man-made, created in 1987 when the dam flooded the valley. Nature and human impact, somehow blending into something that feels untouched.
Our captain Todd.
Boat ride ont the Cheow Lan Lake
A thick layer of fog still hung over the water, we couldn't see nothing. After some minutes the sky cleared and revealed the limestone karsts around us, Jungle and rocks. And somewhere deep in the jungle, we could hear gibbons calling into the morning. One of those moments you don’t forget.
When we set off on the boat, thick layers of fog covered everything, after a while slowly sun light came through and changed the scenery completely.
In his element: exploring and observing beautiful nature.
The main Road in Chinatown got real busy super fast.
We really had to squeeze through people and cars.
The rock fromations, fog and clouds, the water and the sound of nature.
We couldn’t believe our ears first, when we heard the morning calls of the Gibbons. Too bad we couldn’t see the. But knowing they were there and hearing them was already special.
