A major tourist
destination in Turkey. Yes, there were A LOT of people and overlanders as well. AND still it was a damn good experience
to witness those surreal landscapes,
the balloons and the ancient cave dwellings.
The magic of Cappadocia is hard to put into words. You need to experience it. Since we are more like the off-the-beaten-tracks-tourists we were a bit sceptical about going there. It was on our route anyways and since it is so famous there must be something special we thought. The Landscapes before you even enter the area of Cappadocia were already mind blowing and promising and once we passed the Uçhisar Kalesi it was non stop like wow whaaaaat theeeee fuuuuuuuu .... About this more in our next Blog. Let's talk balloons!
EVER HEARD OF
the LOVE VALLEY?
38° 39′ N , 34° 50′ O
It's one of the area's most iconic and unique landscapes. The valley gets its name from the suggestive shapes of some of these pillars, which locals thought resembled phallic symbols. And just above them we set up camp on top of it, to wake up having the best view of the countless hot air balloons filling the sky at dawn.
Can you see where it got the name from? 🙂
Fairy Chimneys: The most famous feature of Cappadocia is its “fairy chimneys” (also known as hoodoos), tall, cone-shaped rock formations that were created by the erosion of volcanic ash deposits over millions of years. This type of rock is called tuff, which is soft and easily eroded. Over time, the forces of erosion — wind, rain, and temperature changes — gradually sculpted the soft rock into the towering pillars and spires you see today. Some of the pillars reach heights of 30 to 40 meters.
